Morganton – Nominations are now being accepted for the 2014 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award.

The awards program, created by the Office of the Governor in 1979, recognizes North Carolina’s most dedicated volunteers. Through the years, the award has been bestowed on thousands of North Carolinians who have shown concern and compassion for their neighbors by volunteering in their local communities.

Nominations may be made for individuals, businesses, groups/teams and paid Directors of Volunteers. Selected recipients will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to their communities. One of the selected nominees will be nominated for the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service, which is awarded to the top 20 volunteers in the state. A local committee evaluates the nominations.

Nominations forms are available at www.volunteernc.org. A form may also be mailed or emailed to you by calling Libby Reep at 438-6546. (For nominations outside of Burke County, nominators should check the website for their respective county contacts.)

Anyone who lives and/or serves in Burke County is eligible to be nominated. Completed forms for Burke County nominees should be mailed to Volunteer Burke, PO Box 274, Morganton, NC, 28680, no later than November 29, 2013.

Winners will be announced by the Governor’s Office in the Spring.
